crossbill irruption

i'm a newbie so not sure how this works.  here goes:

does anyone else in north america have any white winged crossbills?  i rather doubt it as they ALL seem to be in the yukon territory, canada right now.  we do have a bumper crop of spruce cones.  how do they know to come here?
