i live in the yukon territory, canada. we don't have a lot of hummers or roadrunners.  but this summer we have been inundated with white winged crossbills.  for good reason.  there is a heavy cone crop on the spruces.  so heavy that the tops of some trees have broken off already due to the weight of the cones.

my question is: are there other places in north america where there is a concentration of crossbills right now?  if not, how do these birds know to come here or any place where there are good cones?
