Eastern Towhee - lifer

I count lifers as only ones that I get a photo good enough for the ID.  I don't think I ever saw one of these in my 56 years!   Freetown State Forest - Massachusetts

We have HUNDREDS here in Tennessee but they like to stay hidden so it is a little hard to see them or get a picture.  I got my first pictures of one two years ago and haven't gotten anymore pictures of one since.

Congratulations on a great photo.  The Eastern Towhee is one of the birds that has eluded me--even when they are in the area and everyone else is seeing them!

Very nice. That is the same variety that I get here, a single, leading edge wing patch. I get lots of Towhees here in the winter but, the Spotted outnumber the Eastern six to one and the Eastern are much more reclusive. I haven't managed to get a pic of one yet.

If you want to see this bird go to Gatlinburg Tennessee and stay at the Highlands Condominiums, it is just outside of the Great Smoky Mountains.  I see this bird every year when my husband and I go there in October.   They are always there eating a purplish berry that is in a larger group similar to grapes.  (Sorry I do not know what the plant is) Each year the Eastern Towhee there stay until they have eaten every berry off of this bush.  I always run to the balcony with my binoculars when I hear their call.
