Choke Canyon State Park, Texas

On the trip back to Houston from Laredo, we stopped by Choke Canyon State Park.  This is a fabulous place for birding!  We only had a couple of hours in the area.  Nearby we found Savannah, White-crowned and Clay-colored Sparrows.  A Cactus Wren posed for us (at one time there were two posing).

A Pyrrhuloxia thought that he was hiding.

A Roadrunner ran across the road and then proceeded to fluff and ruffle his feathers.

And, a Bobcat crossed the road in front of us--but too far away to get its picture!

In the park itself, we had a flock of Turkeys

on our way to the lake to see the visiting Northern Jacana once again.

A 30 mile drive then took us to Beeville for another look at the Northern Wheatear that has been there this winter.

We left Laredo about 11:00 a.m. after watching for the Amazon Kingfisher--got home about 11:00 p.m.  A long, but worthwhile, day!
