Northern Wheatear

A Northern Wheatear has been hanging around a farm near Beeville, Texas, for a few weeks.  Today a couple of us braved the misty weather (managed to avoid the heavier rain) to go see it.  It gave us a nice show for about thirty minutes.

Hey Flo, for those who don't know, what is so special about this bird?

 Dave,

It breeds in Europe and only very rarely shows up in North America.  And even then, it's typically found along the eastern seaboard.  A bird in Texas is a pretty big deal.

But Texas has been really rocking this winter with phenomenal birds.

Yes, Texas has really had a great winter with stray migrants!  The Northern Wheatear, the Northern Jacana, the Bare-throated Tiger-Heron, and now an Amazon Kingfisher has shown up in Laredo!
