Meet the winner of our Readers' Favorites hawks survey

Readers' Favorites SurveysCongratulations to Debbie Christie of Louisville, Kentucky!

She told us that Taylorsville Lake State Park in Kentucky was her favorite place to watch hawks in our recent Readers' Favorites Survey, and we picked her name in the subsequent drawing. So thanks to our generous partner, Nikon Sport Optics, she will soon receive a pair of the new Nikon Monarch 8x42 binoculars.

Debbie, a nurse who works long night shifts, told us she wished she had a better pair of binoculars, and now she does!

Debbie says she's a novice at birdwatching -- for now. "I find it exciting to watch from a little house at Rough River Lake. From the back deck I have seen many species and can have my laptop right beside me to research and identify what I see. Woodpeckers are more abundant there. From the front of the house, I can watch into an open meadow where an occasional hawk preys on small animals in the tall grass."

Look for the results of the hawks survey on BirdersWorld.com as well as in our upcoming October 2010 issue, scheduled to appear on newsstands on August 31. -- Chuck Hagner, Editor
