I was birding in Yolo County in California when (at midmorning) I saw this Barn Owl hunting in the field. I photographed this with the Nikon D3 and a Nikon 200-400 VR lens.

I'm fortunate that here in northern Utah at times Barn Owls fly during the day. This was taken a few days ago as the sun came up and the owl flew over a marshy area. Nikon D200, f6.3, 1/640, ISO 400, 200-400mm VR with 1.4x TC at 400mm, natural light, not baited or set up.

In 2009, I walked into a barn on a friend's farm and flushed this Barn Owl. The owl flew to the top of a ladder affixed to a silo and let me take lots of pictures, not paying me much attention. Photographed in Sumter County, Georgia.

Photographed in Davis County, Utah in January. The Barn Owls were flying during the day because of the harsh conditions we had including heavy snow on the ground and very low temperatures. Nikon D300, f7.1, 1/1000, ISO 400, +1.0 EV, Nikkor 200-400mm VR with 1.4x TC at 400mm, natural light, not baited
