I was birding in Yolo County in California when (at midmorning) I saw this Barn Owl hunting in the field. I photographed this with the Nikon D3 and a Nikon 200-400 VR lens.

I converted this to black and white and I hope you like it!

They have the strangest faces of any owl in the area!

It looks like he is laughing but he just swallowed half a bird!

In 2009, I walked into a barn on a friend's farm and flushed this Barn Owl. The owl flew to the top of a ladder affixed to a silo and let me take lots of pictures, not paying me much attention. Photographed in Sumter County, Georgia.
