This Rough-legged Hawk was very cooperative last week as it preened. The photo was taken in northern Utah. For some reason when they are preening the tail feathers they hold the tip for a few seconds. I used a Nikon D300, f8, 1/1000, ISO 640, +0.3 EV, Nikkor 200-400mm VR with 1.4x TC at 365mm, natural light, not baited.
