This is not a particularly showy bird but the Abert's Towhee is found only in limited areas in the desert Southwest so I thought it might be of interest. It is also very hard to see as it prefers skulking in dense underbrush. This one surprised me when it suddenly appeared right in front of me in a shady spot and gave me enough time to click the shutter. Alas, my camera settings were not optimal but I did salvage a full view of the elusive bird. October 7, 2009, Sweetwater Wetlands, Tucson, Arizona.
