On a cloudy day at Skokie Lagoons in the Chicago-land area, this Barrow's Goldeneye joined a large group of Common Goldeneyes. This was a rare visitor to our area. It stayed almost two weeks in early February 2012. The picture was taken with a Canon 50D, shutter speed 1/320, f5.6, .67 exposure bias...

I had never seen one of these ducks before except in pictures. The image was captured with an 80-200 f2.8 Nikon lens on a Nikon D100. It was...

On November 10 2012 I had the great good fortune of "discovering" this male Mandarin Duck at suburban, busy Averill Park here in coastal LA County's San Pedro. It was with the Mallards, and has now been there for nearly 2 months. The camera used was a Canon 7D with the 500 f/4 IS L lens...

There has been a Tufted Duck aroung Saint John the last 10 years in the winter, but authorities are quite certain that it is the same bird hanging around the same north end area.
