I photographed this immature Long-tailed Duck (front) and Surf Scoter from an oceanic jetty in Playa Del Rey, Los Angeles County, California, on March 3, 2012. Long-tailed Ducks are rare winter visitors to Southern California. I used a Canon 7D camera and a Canon 100-400mm lens to make this shot.
