This bird has been reported for a month now frequenting an area just outside of the town of Rudyard, in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. I managed to capture this digiscoped image of the bird, which was found perched on the side of the road. I had to walk down the road a good 100' feet or so that the bird was 'small' enough to fill the frame. The challenge of getting the photo was complicated by gale-force winds that were blowing 20-30 mph all afternoon, but the owl didn't seem to mind. It spent a good 30 minutes in the tree searching for a meal, and remained on its perch after we left. A gorgeous bird and worth the 6 hour trip to see it!
