This morning I was trying to photograph a loud juvenile Brown-headed Cowbird when a Blue-winged Warbler landed and started feeding it. This image was taken with a Nikon D5100 using a Nikkor 300mm f/4D lens at f/4, 1/800s, ISO 800 (auto mode), manual focus. I posted more images in the Backyard Forum ...

It was a rainy day and the lighting was so soft looking. For a few days each spring these guys pack the bird feeder.

I hope I am right on this identification as a juvenile Brown-headed Cowbird. I had a few of these at the feeder for a week and then they were gone. The photo was taken with a Canon T1i 70-300mm.

Brown-headed Cowbirds

Brown-headed male and female cowbird pair displaying dominance. Whenever other cowbirds of either gender approached within 10 feet of them the display would begin. The male, with his wings spread wide, would quickly thrust his head to the ground several times while advancing towards another male cowbird...

We watched this little Chipping Sparrow feeding this young Brown-headed Cowbird this morning. As small as the nests are, the one egg must have filled it up!

Eastern Phoebes nested under our deck in Sterling, Massachusetts. However, the cowbird switched eggs. Here the recently fledged cowbird chases "Dad" for another handout even though it has outgrown Dad considerably.

This cardinal "family" was enjoying some sunflower seeds. It looks strange to see the cardinal feeding a cowbird.
