Swainson's Hawk

While not so rare if you happen to be located in the west, this Swainson's Hawk is a rare visitor to New York State. For that reason, when I found e-mail reports on the bird's presence in our home state, my wife and I jumped into the car and sped north for about two hours in an attempt to see and photograph this rarity. Sure enough, the bird was right where it had been seen earlier and afforded us extended fine views and excellent photographic opportunities. It sure is great when a plan comes together so nicely.
