Friday photos: Birds in snow

There's no snow near our offices here in southeastern Wisconsin yet, but we know it's on the way! The birds in the photos below found it -- or, rather, it found them! We chose the wintery scenes from our online galleries. Enjoy!

Cassin’s Finch: Gbotello found this Cassin’s Finch hanging around his Flagstaff, Arizona, yard during a snowfall on February 27, 2011.

Red-headed Woodpecker: This hungry woodpecker was pounding away in Randall’s snowy backyard in southern Ohio in March.

Carolina Wren: Even as the wind blew during a winter snowstorm, this wren stood its ground in gergrd’s backyard.

Fox Sparrow: One winter morning virginia discovered this boldly marked sparrow patiently waiting its turn at the feeder set up at Richmond Nature Park in British Columbia.

Brown-capped Rosy-Finch: It was 6°F and 20-mph winds were blowing (putting the wind chill at -15°F) when Mike Milicia photographed this rosy-finch at Sandia Crest in New Mexico. Mike says a light snow was falling, too.
