New photo gallery: People and places

Attention, photographers! We've created a new gallery for you.

We call it People and Places. It's a photo gallery of the places where you like to go birdwatching and the people you see birding at them.

Go to People and Places.

Places: We're envisioning pictures of places where birders find birds. Places like the Cape May lighthouse, the boardwalks in Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary and Magee Marsh (below), the braided Platte River, North Lookout at Hawk Mountain, Boot Canyon in Big Bend National Park, the veranda of Asa Wright Nature Center, the Brownsville dump, and many others, but also the local park, your favorite patch, your yard. Birds are optional in place photos, and whether your photos include people is up to you.

People: We're thinking of birders birding, plain and simple (like the one below). And we think it would be fun to see photos of writers, leaders, public speakers, and other notable birders. Go on a bird hike with Pete Dunne? Bump into Kenn Kaufman on a boardwalk? Perhaps you met Greg Miller of "The Big Year" fame or field guide authors Richard Crossley or Don and Lillian Stokes. If so, please share your photos.

Of course, your pictures of rare and beautiful and unusual and backyard birds are still welcome in our five other galleries. You and your fellow shutterbugs have uploaded almost 8,000 gorgeous images in them to date. Please continue to share your bird pictures, to comment on what you see, and to browse to your heart's content.

And please accept my heartfelt thanks for bringing the galleries to life! --Chuck Hagner, Editor
