We're about two months away from the October 14 release of The Big Year, the movie adaptation of Mark Obmascik's fantastic book,
but today we get a small nugget to chew on. Twentieth Century Fox has released this photo showing the three stars — Owen Wilson, Steve Martin, and Jack Black — looking for all the world like real birders.
Wilson appears to be holding Zeiss binoculars, and Martin has Swarovskis. I'm not sure which brand Black is holding (Pentax? Kowa?), but no matter. His expression is priceless and one I think we can all relate to. I know I can. His face says, "I really want to see this bird before it flies away," while Wilson and Martin look like they've already seen whatever the prize bird was. The photo certainly raises other questions that will just have to go unanswered for now: What bird were they looking at, where are they birding, and what's the deal with Wilson's lime-green pants?
If you have any thoughts about what you see in the photo, leave them in the comments below. --Matt Mendenhall, Associate Editor

Well, the only thing missing from the photo is a banjo! In addition to being a fine actor and comedian, Steve Martin is a wonderful banjo player. Strangely enough, an album he recorded not long ago was titled "The Crow". A coincidence, or not? Bluegrass music is his specialty. Do not pass up an opportunity to hear him perform if you get a chance.
Here is a performance from the Letterman show by Steve and a group of excellent musicians playing "The Crow". I hope the link works.
